What is the value of this course?

You gain six months of comprehensive business training at a price lower than that of an MBA. Moreover, you’ll become part of a thriving community of sports professionals, enjoying ongoing connections within the industry.

What is the cost of the course?

The cost for the full 6-month course is $25,848 per cohort, which includes up to 20 participants.

What is the time commitment for the course?

Each of the 6 modules follows a 4-week structure: Concept, Action, Execution, Wrap up. Each week includes 60-90 minutes of virtual classroom teaching with 90 minutes of out-of-class homework to be completed each week.  

After month 3 and 6, there is a 1-day in-person session.

Ken Martel

With over 25 years of unwavering dedication to player development and a rich coaching history with USA Hockey, Ken Martel ascended to the role of senior director of player and coach development in November 2022. His mission: to pave the way for associations nationwide, guiding them toward the zenith of athlete development.

From 2009 to 2022, Martel’s influential tenure saw him as the technical director of USA Hockey’s American Development Model. Prior to this, from 2006 to 2008, he toiled at USA Hockey’s national office in Colorado Springs, Colorado, tirelessly working on coaching education and player development initiatives. His relentless pursuit of advancing the sport through science earned him the prestigious USOC “Doc” Councilman Award for Ice Hockey in 2004.

Before making his mark in Colorado Springs, Martel was an integral part of the USA Hockey National Team Development Program for eight years, from 1998 to 2006, donning a dual role with a focus on player personnel in his final five seasons.

Martel’s illustrious coaching career boasts appearances behind the bench of nine U.S. teams in International Ice Hockey Federation World Championships. Among these, he steered the U.S. National Under-18 Team four times (2000-04), the U.S. National Junior Team four times (2004, 2006, 2008-09), and the U.S. Women’s National Team in 2007. His name is etched in history as part of two gold medal-winning squads, including the groundbreaking victories in the IIHF Men’s World Under-18 Championship (2002) and the IIHF World Junior Championship (2004).

In addition to these remarkable milestones, Martel made his mark as an assistant coach for the men’s ice hockey program at the U.S. Air Force Academy during the 1997-98 season and as an assistant men’s ice hockey coach at Michigan Tech University for seven seasons, from 1990 to 1997. In 1990-91, he lent his expertise as a graduate assistant for the men’s ice hockey program at St. Cloud State University.

Martel’s own journey as a four-year (1985-89) letter-winner as a defenseman at Lake Superior State University culminated in helping the Lakers seize their inaugural NCAA national title in 1988. His unwavering commitment to the sport and player development continues to shine as a beacon of inspiration for hockey enthusiasts across the nation.

Stephen Norris

Hailing from England, Norris, a visionary in sports physiology, has spent the past 15 years shaping Canada’s athletic excellence. As the Director of Sport Physiology & Strategic Planning at the Canadian Sport Centre Calgary, he fueled the nation’s winter sport teams through three Olympic cycles, including the triumphant 2010 Vancouver Winter Games as the guiding force behind the Own The Podium initiative.

His influence extends deep into the heart of hockey, collaborating with Hockey Canada for 15 years, with a remarkable 12-year stint shaping the National Women’s Team program. Norris’s expertise radiates from the University of Calgary’s Human Performance Laboratory, where he is an esteemed member of the Sport Physiology Group/Altitude Research Group, renowned for his mastery in long-term athlete development and talent nurturing systems.

Adding to his accolades, Norris recently assumed the role of adjunct professor in applied physiology at Mount Royal University, following a decade-long tenure in the same capacity at the University of Calgary.

Norris thrives in the realm of “sliding and gliding” sports, spanning ice, snow, and water – a maestro of hockey, skiing, snowboarding, luge, skeleton, and bobsleigh. Beyond these icy terrains, his passions encompass sailing and swimming.

His commitment to sport transcends the sidelines, serving on the Board of Directors for Swimming/Natation Canada, Cross Country Canada/Ski du Fond Canada, and Bobsleigh Canada Skeleton, advocating tirelessly for the cause of sport and recreation, both locally and nationally.
